Featured Artist: Bon Iver

Bon Iver

Bon Iver is the name of the Raleigh-based indie folk singer/songwriter Justin Vernon's band. While Vernon plays guitar and sings lead vocals he is accompanied my multi-instrumentalists Mike Noyce on backing vocals, guitar and baritone guitar and Sean Carey on vocals, drums, pianos, and vibes. The band is originally from Wisconsin where Vernon spent three months isolated in a cabin writing songs for their debut LP For Emma, Forever Ago, while recovering from mono, which was released in 2007 . Their debut album created local buzz throughout the popular indie scene of the Raleigh, Chapel Hill, Carrboro, Durham area of North Carolina. Shortly there after it received critical acclaim from national outlets such as Rolling Stone magazine and my ever favorite PitchforkMedia.com. Earlier this year they released their Blood Bank EP. In my eyes rarely does a band's name completely coincide with their sound but Bon Iver's does. The name for the band, Bon Iver, comes from the french words for "good winter" which is "bon hiver". After listening to their album it did remind me of a crisp winter morning in which the ground is covered in thick, white, powdery snow. If you are a fan of Fleet Foxes, The Avett Brothers or any other soulful, backwoods, soft indie rock band than Bon Iver is for you.
